Aquaculture Growout Tank System Evaluation
The growout tanks are approximately 6 meters x 5meters x 2 meters in height and can be built from any available materials relative to the local material costs. At one end they have a two stage self cleaning mechanical filtration unit which removes solids down to approximately 30 - 40 micron, which incidentally, are manufactured in Australia.
Water from the mechanical filtration unit then passes into a bio digestion chamber before returning to the culture tank. Water is continually circulated at approximately 500 litres per minute which equals 30,000 litres per hour which equals 720,000 litres per 24 hour period or 14.4 exchanges.
Additional aeration is supplied in the bio-digestion/bio-filtration chamber and set-up in the main tank as well.
It is anticipated that remote sensing equipment should be installed at sensitive locations on site to provide a degree of biomass safety.
As we understand the local climate, no heating of the culture water should be necessary.
A portable UV and Ozone sterilization unit will be on site as back-up to any of the culture systems.
Water exchange will occur automatically as required by the unit from the header tank and will vary from zero exchange to 100% per day depending on the situation.
Solids of fecal material and uneaten feed, scales and other particulate matter will be removed through the filtration unit. It is then channeled to a collection point and removed for composting or other as yet unknown purpose involving asset value of this potential fertilizer product.
Initial Costing Analysis
Preliminary costings have been provided through various emails and discussions
regarding this project and these are summarized below.
Based on Australian prices minimum production of 80 tonnes per annum, the gross production return equates to approximately $2,400,000.
The maximum return based on potential maximum farm output and Hong Kong import prices becomes quite interesting due to the doubling effect of production, Hong Kong market price structure and international demand.
